The 5 Golden Rules of Commercial Print Artwork
1. Design in CMYK Mode, Never RGB
Computer monitors and smartphone displays emit light in RGB (Red, Green, Blue). Commercial offset and digital presses print physical ink using CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key Black). Neon greens, electric blues, and vivid oranges in RGB cannot be reproduced in standard CMYK. Always set your document color mode to CMYK before placing images.
2. Maintain 300 DPI Image Resolution
Images downloaded from websites or WhatsApp are typically compressed to 72 DPI. While they look sharp on screens, they appear visibly pixelated and fuzzy when transferred to CTP offset plates. Ensure all photographic images are 300 DPI at 100% of their final printed physical dimensions.
3. Include 3mm Bleed on All Edges
Commercial guillotine cutters trim stacks of hundreds of paper sheets simultaneously. Slight mechanical shifts (0.5mm to 1mm) naturally occur during high-speed cutting. If background colors or photos stop precisely at the cut edge, tiny white slivers may appear. Extend all edge graphics 3mm beyond the final cut line.
4. Keep Critical Content Inside the 4mm Safe Zone
Place all text, telephone numbers, logos, and QR codes at least 4mm to 5mm inside the trim line. This prevents valuable contact details from being sliced off during post-press finishing.
5. Convert All Typography to Outlines / Curves
If our prepress rip workstations do not have your exact custom corporate fonts installed, software may substitute fonts and disrupt your layout. In Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, select all text and convert to outlines (Ctrl+Shift+O in Illustrator, Ctrl+Q in CorelDraw).
Recommended File Formats for Commercial Submission
- High-Resolution PDF (PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4): The worldwide industry standard. Preserves vector fidelity, embeds fonts, and locks bleeds in place.
- CorelDraw (.CDR): Very popular for regional printing in Jaipur. Please convert text to curves and save in CorelDraw version 17 or lower or export directly to PDF.
- Adobe Illustrator (.AI): Packaged with linked vector assets and outlined typography.

Unlike offset printing which requires 300 DPI, large outdoor flex banners viewed from 10 feet away are generally prepared at 100 to 150 DPI at actual printed dimensions.
